Canon’s Best Lens

KaiMan Wong is well known for his eccentric way around a camera. He has a big following among photography fanboys and when he makes a statement, the world listens. Here we see what Kai has to say about the new Canon 24-105.

The New Canon 24-105

In his recent gear review, Kai went on to call the new 24-105 f/4L IS II the best Lens by Canon. This comes as a surprise to many because the 24-105 is one of the basic L lenses available. In fact, it comes as a kit lens for the 5D and even the 6D.

Almost every Photographer will have a favorite lens and for Canon shooters, the 24-105 doesn’t make the list for many. Canon’s 24-70 f/2.8 is an all-round favorite for countless professionals in the same focal range. Others might consider primes over zooms. Many PROs live by the legendary 70-200 f/2.8. Why then, does Kai hold such high regards for the new 24-105?

In his video, Kaiman talks about how being versatile while delivering on the high standards that we expect from an L lens, makes the new 24-105 Canon’s best.

With almost everything better than version one, including autofocus, optics and stabilization, the 24-105 is no doubt a brilliant piece of glass.  Add to that the fact that the 24-105 is a staple for DSLR video shooters. This is because of the sizable focal range available in addition to the high quality of Canon’s L glass at a relatively fast aperture. Being good at so many things makes the new 24-105 a lens to hold onto.

Kai’s conclusion to the video tells the 24-105 version 2 story precisely.

“It might disappoint some, but it is still one of the best lenses to have for the Canon system, if not the best. It’s the first one you should get, and perhaps the one you should never let go of.”
